The Peak Forest Canal runs for about 12 miles between Whaley Bridge or Bugsworth and Ashton under Lyne, England.
It is open for navigation throughout its length and the lower Peak Forest Canal (between Marple and Ashton) forms part of the Cheshire Ring, linking the Macclesfield Canal with the Ashton Canal.
The "cruise" or virtual tour runs from north to south, but includes views of the canal looking in either direction.
The quality of each image has been kept moderately low to enable the pages to load reasonably quickly, although it may take up to 30 seconds for all the pictures on a page to load.
If you enjoy the "cruise" you can return to Portland Basin and continue along the Huddersfield Canal and back along ther Rochdale Canal to complete a virtual Pennine Ring.
