This was the site of Crag End Locks, a three-rise staircase. The bridge that carried Poplar Road over the canal lives on in the name of Bridge Cottage, on the right of the picture.
Above Crag End Locks, the raised line of the canal can be seen as the route of Poplar Crescent.
600 metres ahead, Gaisby Lane bridge is still intact, although bricked up.
