The Macclesfield Canal runs for about 26 miles between Marple and Kidsgrove, England.
At Hall Green it met end on with the Hall Green Branch of the Trent and Mersey Canal, which connected the Macclesfield Canal with the main line of the Trent and Mersey at Hardings Wood Junction. The Hall Green Branch is now usually regarded as part of the Macclesfield Canal as in included as such in this virtual tour.
The Macclesfield Canal is open for navigation throughout its length and forms part of the Cheshire Ring, linking the Peak Forest Canal with the Trent and Mersey Canal.
The "cruise" or virtual tour runs from north to south, but includes views of the canal looking in either direction.
The quality of each image has been kept moderately low to enable the pages to load reasonably quickly, although it may take up to 30 seconds for all the pictures on a page to load.
If you enjoy the "cruise" you can try the virtual tours on other canals on this site.
