Inside the tunnel at Marsden Portal.
De-silting the canal bed.
Before work to renovate the roof and walls can take place, a huge volume of silt has to be removed. In places the silt was up to six feet deep. (The canal was deeper than normal in the tunnel as the summit pound acted as a reservoir.)
About half of the length of the tunnel is lined with brick or stone.
Working on a platform to re-point the side walls.
