Looking down the steps to the canal route. The canal turned right and ran along the side of the Dearne valley.
The canal curves along the valley side. Looking westwards towards Barnsley. Behind the trees ahead is a pier of the former railway viaduct that crossed the valley here.
There is a good view from here of the pithead of the former Barnsley Main (Oaks) Colliery on the opposite hillside.
For a short way, the path runs along the former canal bed.
Further on, the canal has been infilled level with the towpath.
