Looking east along Lock 4W. The lock is complete. Gates and a tail bridge have been fitted. Footgrips have been added to the lockside under the balance beams.

Looking eastwards past Lock 4W, towards Lock 5W. The towpath has been paved, railings fitted around Lock 4W and walls alongside have been finished off. A stone facing has been constructed in front of the steel sheet piles that support the embankment to the south of the canal.
The head gate area of Lock 4W seen from the east. A grill on the right covers the entry to the by-wash.
The tailgate area of Lock 4W. Curving concrete walls have been constructed, between which a ramp leads down from the lock to the towpath below the adjacent bridge. The bridge parapet has been constructed and clad with stone.
April 9th 2001: Looking west along Lock 4W towards Caroline Street bridge and Staley Wharf basin. The first boats come up through the lock into the restored section of canal.
