The canal continues along a longish pound with industry to the left and a tree-covered slope to the right.
Looking west from the Lock 8w, Staley Hall Lock, near the site of the former Hartshead Power Station, Heyrod. The canal, which had been infilled in this section, has been routed along a new channel between the legs of the pylon.
Looking eastwards from Lock 8w, Staley Hall Lock, towards the new stone bridge between Heyrod and Millbrook.
The remains of an overhead conveyor show where coal was carried from the Micklehurst Loop railway line to Hartshead Power Station, which was on the other side of the river. The dilapidated remains of buildings associated with the power station can be found in the woods.

Scout Embankment. This section between Locks 10w and 11w was rebuilt in 2006, to ensure the stability of the steep embankment on the left, and is one of the few sections of this canal that is deep right up to the towpath edge!.
