Huddersfield Canal Society Link Day

July 2001

On Saturday, 21st July 2001, members of the Huddersfield Canal Society celebrated the achievement of their dream with a special "Link Day". The day was based at the new Visitor Centre at Tunnel End, Marsden, but included visits by coach to the major restoration sites along the canal.

Around 260 members and guests attended the celebration, many from distant parts of the country seeing the restored canal for the first time in "real life". Members inspected the displays in the new Vistor Centre and were given a short trip into the tunnel in one of the passenger modules. A select group of 30 special guests, who included founding members of the Society, were treated to a trip right through the Standedge Tunnel on the first through passenger voyage.
