Now that the Huddersfield Narrow Canal has been restored and re-opened it is possible to walk the towpath along the entire length except for Standedge Tunnel between Diggle and Marsden and Bates Tunnel in the centre of Huddersfield.
The red line on the map below shows the pedestrian route between Queen Street South and Lock 3e off Chapel Hill.
There is no pedestrian access to Lock 2E.
It should be noted that access from the towpath to Queen Street South is via a flight of iron steps. Wheelchair users or others who would find these steps difficult to use should follow the route shown by the green line. This shows an alternative route between Commercial Street bridge and Queen Street South.
